Green Eye Care
Our optometry office aims to be environmentally friendly. Here are some of the ways we provide green eye care:
-
When we need to use paper, we use Boise Aspen 100 which is made from 100% post-consumer fiber.
-
We recycle paper products, including cardboard and heavy paper boxes.
-
The plastic trays that contact lenses come in are recycled. (The plastic/foil tops are not recyclable.)
-
We encourage our patients to recycle plastic and paper materials that come with contact lenses and solutions.
-
We also encourage our patients to recycle old glasses through the Lions Club, Costco Optical or another optical store.
-
Paper, plastic, glass and metal recycling areas are provided for patient and employee use.
-
Air conditioning and heating is used minimally since we have a relatively small, efficiently sized office.
-
A programmable thermostat also helps control energy use.
-
Air filters are cleaned and changed often to maintain AC and heating efficiency.
-
Energy efficient lighting is used in our office.
-
Equipment is turned off when not being used.
-
Computers are turned off or set to energy-saving modes when not in use.
-
There is a bus stop nearby allowing patients to use more eco-friendly mass transit. Or patients can share a car ride with other family and/or friends.
